The metaphor of war terms in Chinese sports news is a common phenomenon, where phrases and concepts inspired by military terms are used to describe sports events in a way that simulates the atmosphere of war as if they were real battles. This reflects the spirit of challenge and adds enthusiasm to sports events.
The metaphor of wars in sports news as a mental phenomenon carries aspects of cognitive meanings, as it contributes to building meaning and understanding the relationship between the figurative and original meaning. Sports texts are full of many types of war metaphors, such as: describing tactics as military plans, the stadium as a battlefield, attacks as military strikes, defense as an impregnable fortress, and players as warriors. Therefore, this phenomenon deserves further study.
This study aims, in the light of cognitive linguistics, to provide a detailed analysis of the metaphor of wars in the (China Sports Newspaper) in 2024. The study relies on the applied and analytical approach to monitor the phenomenon in the newspaper under study.
