Abstract

With the rapid increase in refugees and guest workers emigrating to Germany, particularly in connection with the political events and unrest in Syria and Iraq, the translation of court texts from German into Arabic has gained in importance and increased significantly. Among the well-known text types on the translation market are court texts, such as court judgments, indictments, charges, arrest warrants, etc. As a result, the number of Arabic translators recognized by German courts has increased significantly. However, this increase is associated with translation problems, which on the one hand are related to terminology due to the different legal systems in Germany and the Arabian world, but on the other hand also have to do with linguistic and cultural differences between the two languages and cultures. This article deals with the frequent problems and shows ways of dealing with them appropriately. The article is always based on authentic texts, which are adapted for data protection reasons, in order to highlight the problems discussed and make suggestions for overcoming them, which can serve both as a guide for translators and students of specialized translation, but also as tips and practical suggestions for teachers.
