Abstract

The concept of fragmentation is one of the concepts that is strongly
present within the postmodern text. Hence, what is common in postmodern
texts is fragmentation, discontinuity, and chaos.
The postmodern movement appeared in the year 1970, and critic sees that the
novel (Fatih - Harbiye) by the Turkish writer Bayami Safa, which was
published in 1931 (that is, before the emergence of the postmodern
movement), consists mostly of separate, unconnected, intersecting and fragmented moments. in which the times move between the past and the
present, and these times were strongly associated with the characters;
Characters who suffer from many psychological conflicts, which made them
in a state of separation from themselves and their society, and the result is
that these characters turned into fragmented personalities, shifting from
awareness to the formation of meaning, to schizophrenia, and an attempt to
search for identity. He applied the chaos and fragmentation of the characters
to the structure of the form and content of the novel. And he took the
character of the Turkish girl as a focal point for movement within the novel,
portraying through it the Turkish society amid the choppy currents that it
waves, as a result of Turkey's orientation to the West.
